I knew I wanted to be a designer when:

JF: I realized everyone else was not continually reimagining volumes of space, materials, textures, and colors in a room the minute they entered it.

RC: I have always loved making things. I originally did a lot of jewelry design and pottery and other work that involved detail and creating with my hands. Architecture and Design was a natural progression of combining my desire for making things with a need to make a living!

My style in three words:

Quality, Refined, Unapologetic

Design tip:

Don’t take design cues from anywhere but inside yourself. Be bold and not afraid to do something different. You cannot replicate authenticity, so don’t try to emulate a design that is not true to who you are or the space you inhabit.

Best shopping sources:

We never go to the same places over and over again. The best things come out of using ordinary materials and finishes, and using them in unusual and unexpected ways. Reimagining existing/found pieces is another way to keep shopping sources unique and fresh.

Color crush right now:

Bold! Pops of bright colors. Yellows, blues, pinks, and turquoise

Design element you’re obsessed with:

Beautiful details in custom furniture or upholstery.  Walnut & leather & brass/metal is a beautiful combination that is timeless and adds to any design.

What’s your dream project?

A new construction home (in Scandinavia preferably) nestled in nature that embraces and celebrates its natural surroundings.

What’s your first source of inspiration?

Our clients! Taking the client’s vision and making it come to life for them is truly inspirational.  It’s enabled us to stay fresh since we’re never doing the same thing twice.

Your favorite places?

Restaurants and bars. Food, libations, and travel are passions we both share. The best places are unique finds when traveling that give you an authentic experience through and through. Often it’s the hole in the wall place that offers the best food, environment and overall experience.

Favorite project so far?

Projects where the client inspires and trusts us to put thought and creativity into every surface we touch.

Favorite Restaurants?

Billy Sunday, Chicago, The Bjargarsteinn Mathús in Grundarfjörður, Iceland & Roman’s, Brooklyn.

Favorite place to Travel?

San Miguel De Allende (Mexico) & Northern Iceland.

Favorite place to Shop?

Local shops when we are traveling and searching online. We try to shop small and women-owned businesses that celebrate the same value of quality design & detail that we believe in.

Favorite Hotel?

The Rosewood, London, The Palihotel, Seattle & Detroit Foundation Hotel.

Music you’re playing right now?

Rainbow Kitten Surprise, Nathaniel Rateliff
